Opening of new ocean service between South Korea and Baltic HubThe French shipping company CMA CGM is opening a new direct ocean service that will connect Baltic Hub with Busan – South Korea's largest container port and the 6th largest container port in the world.
For the first time, a container ship from CMA CGM's FAL 1 service will arrive at the Baltic Hub terminal on August 15, 2023. The vessel opening the new service will be the CMA CGM container ship Zheng He, sailing under the Maltese flag. Its length is 399 meters, while its width is 54 meters. The next vessel, the French-flagged CMA CGM Concorde, 400 m long and 62 m wide, will arrive at the Baltic Hub on September 12. From October, vessels in the FAL1 service will be arriving to Gdansk on a weekly basis. All vessels will be powered by LNG.
The implementation of the new service is the result of long-standing cooperation and successful negotiations between Baltic Hub and CMA CGM. It is worth mentioning that Busan has become the second port in Korea, after Ulsan, to establish a direct connection with Baltic Hub. The FAL1 already represents the fourth Far East loop for the Polish hub, as Gdansk has been included in MSC's recently launched Swan service. The French shipowner also has plans to expand its intermodal transport offer from the Baltic Hub to more than a dozen destinations in Poland and countries in Central and Eastern Europe. This is undoubtedly a key step in strengthening Baltic Hub's position as a major player in global logistics.

CMA CGM is one of the world's largest container shipowners. French Asia Line 1 (FAL1) is the fourth Ocean Alliance loop between the Far East and Northern Europe. CMA CGM operates this service with thirteen vessels with a total capacity from 17,859 to 23,112 TEU. The FAL1 will be serving the following ports: Gdansk - Wilhelmshaven - Rotterdam - Algeciras - Port Klang - Busan - Ningbo - Shanghai - Yantian - Singapore - Tangier - Dunkirk - Le Havre and Hamburg.
About Baltic Hub
Baltic Hub is Poland's largest and fastest-growing container terminal and the only deep-water terminal in the Baltic Sea with direct calls from the Far East.
The total length of the terminal's two deep-water quays is 1.3 kilometers, which allows the terminal to handle 4 ships at the same time. The terminal handles more than 700 ships a year, including 100 calls of the world's largest container vessels. In October 2022, a new investment was launched at Baltic Hub – the construction of the third deepwater quay T3. T3 is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2025. Due to the development the terminal will gain 717 meters of quay, with water depth of 17.5 meters, which will contribute to an annual additional throughput of 1.5 million TEU. The investment aims to increase the terminal's total capacity to 4.5 million TEU per year.
Baltic Hub hires more than 1,200 people, of which more than 50 percent live in and around Gdansk. The terminal has a direct and significant impact on the regional and Polish economy, generating more than PLN 12 billion a year to the state budget from VAT, excise taxes and customs duties.
The terminal is owned by PSA International (40%), the Polish Development Fund Group (30%), and the IFM Global Infrastructure Fund (30%), whose advisor is IFM Investors (30%).
