Baltic Hub for the environment and local communities
2025-02-06

Sustainability and concern for the environment are among the most important cornerstones of the Gdansk terminal's operations. Baltic Hub has been socially active for years, and in 2024 has carried out dozens of actions, including the original Busole district grant, supporting the local community around the terminal.

The company consistently implements a corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy based on five pillars: environmental protection, health, support for the local community, business ethics and safety at work.

Actively for the terminal's neighbors

Baltic Hub supports local communities by cooperating with neighborhood councils, non-profit organisations and foundations, and by engaging in events and initiatives that are important for the residents of the Gdansk districts next to the terminal: Stogi, Przeróbka, Krakowiec-Górki Zachodnie.

Baltic Hub's flagship project is the “Busole” district grant. The 3rd edition received 19 applications. The competition jury selected seven projects, which received a total of PLN 250,000 in support. The subsidized initiatives include, among others, educational workshops for seniors from DPS Ostoja, the creation of a modern music and multimedia studio at Primary School No. 72 in the Gdańsk Stogi district, and a project promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity implemented by School and Kindergarten Complex No. 11 in Gdańsk.

– Activities that support our neighbors are of great value to us. We are committed to being involved in interesting initiatives in the neighborhood. It's an incredible pleasure to see the results of our work for others, not just that related to terminal operations said Charles Baker, CEO of Baltic Hub of that time.

Baltic Hub also regularly supports local events such as neighborhood festivals and community initiatives like the District Creativity Hub, which allows children and young people to spend time creatively during the summer break.

Safety and ethical stance

Baltic Hub also places great emphasis on prevention and education, organizing safety programs and training in accordance with the maxim: Safety in our DNA. These include Active Health and Safety Day and Health and Safety Alert, actions that aim to raise employee awareness of safe working conditions. The company not only cares about safety within the organization, but also shares knowledge with residents and tourists visiting Gdańsk's beaches during special events and happenings.

Eco-responsible and committed to environmental protection

Minimizing environmental impact, increasing energy efficiency and promoting biodiversity are of great importance to Baltic Hub. The terminal undertakes several activities, such as installing photovoltaic panels, recycling waste, and using electric vehicles and cranes. Employees are also involved in local environmental initiatives, such as planting trees and cleaning up beaches in the Baltic Hub's neighborhood. In 2024, the company also adopted a giraffe from the Gdańsk Zoo, supporting the protection of endangered species and environmental education for the youngest.

Promoting a healthy lifestyle

Baltic Hub's educational campaigns and sports challenges promote healthy lifestyles among employees and the local community. During “Moving for Charity” in 2024, the company's employees collected more than 26,000 minutes of sports activity. The minutes were converted into money and donated to the Pomorze Children's Foundation. The Baltic Hub also has running, cycling, and football teams that participate in charity runs and races.

CSR of the future at the Baltic Hub

The year 2025 marks the continuation of CSR activities at Baltic Hub. The terminal is planning another fourth edition of the “Busole” grant program, as well as the implementation of further actions supporting environmental protection and integration with organizations and communities in the company's neighborhood. Employees will be able to get involved as part of the Employee Volunteer Program Wrap Up with Help, which was inaugurated in January 2025.
