DCT Gdansk SA is in the latter stages of constructing Poland’s newest deep sea container facility, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and providing a vital trade gateway to and from Central and Eastern Europe and a potential market of 300 million consumers. Phase One of the facility will see construction of a 36ha modern container terminal along a 650m berth equipped with three post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tyred gantry cranes. Construction of Phase One of the terminal began in October 2005 with completion due by October this year, although it will commence operations sooner than that, with its first vessel expected on 1 June 2007. | |
Commenting on the award, Mr Chanter said: „It is gratifying to receive such welcome recognition of our commitment to Gdansk – and indeed Poland – a whole month before our container terminal handles its first ship. „With the invaluable assistance of our friends at the Port Authority of Gdansk, we are proud to be playing such an important role in facilitating Poland’s increasing trade with the rest of the world.” DCT Gdansk SA currently employs more than 70 people, the majority of whom are from the local Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot „tri-city” area along Poland’s Baltic coastline. |
